Holding the wall even around openings of that size is the difficulty: the material narrows between them and a thin patch would show as a bright band. Every face is polished, the insides of the piercings included, and they are reached by hand. The dished top is worked flat-bottomed inside its own rim and the foot is faced flat, so the piece stands true on a hard floor.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eAt 72cm this stands beside a chair as a drinks table, or alone in a hall where the piercings can be seen against the light. It wants light from behind or beside it, because the openings are what the piece is and a flat wash closes them up. It bears on a small footprint for its height, so a hard level floor suits it and a walkway does not.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003ch2\u003eThe Piercings, the Ledge, and Handling It\u003c\/h2\u003e\u003cp\u003eWhere the piece is standard the build is 3–4 weeks, and where it is bespoke 5–6. Most of it is the pierced pillar. Three elements are left to you. The number of piercings can be cut back or taken further, the ledge is set at another height, and the top is offered flat instead of dished. Top span and pillar height are cut to your figures. Nothing holds the placing of the openings between separate orders. Packing is shaped to the projecting ledge and pushed through the open piercings so nothing bears on a thin section, and two people carry it.
