It rises from a heavy, rippled trough on both sides: the left arm twists up and over into a spout that ends in a narrow spike, with a short flick and a broad flap beneath it, and the right arm curls up, round and across to a fine point and stops there, short of the spout, leaving the ring open. Every surface is broken into small facets and ripples, like water caught mid-movement.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003ch2\u003eClear Rippled Water That Never Quite Closes\u003c\/h2\u003e\u003cp\u003eWith no colour to lean on, everything depends on the surface. The resin is worked into a restless skin of ripples, folds and small sharp facets, and each one throws back its own highlight, so the ring glitters as you walk past and the folds read as moving water rather than glass. The heavy trough at the foot gathers the most reflections and appears faintly grey; the spout and the tips, thinner and more broken, flash white. The eye comes to rest in the space between the end of the right arm and the base of the spout.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eAt 56cm including its block, it is at home on a study desk or a deep shelf, wherever the open ring meets the eye and the room shows through it. Because it is colourless, it takes its tones from what surrounds it: dark timber or a deep wall colour behind it makes every ripple shine, while a pale setting turns it soft and icy. In the evening a low lamp at its side brings out every facet. You are buying one clear ring with its marble block, and it is sold individually. To order, a tint can be added to the trough or carried up into the arms, the space under the spout opened up or tightened, and the surface left as broken as this or smoothed into broader folds; the block can be cut in a different stone. It travels in a fitted crate, the spout and the right arm's tip cushioned apart from the rest, and once its block stands level on site the ring is set onto it.
