The lattice of the wings stays crisp throughout, from the small pale cells near the body to the dark margins at the tips, and the long legs keep every joint and gentle bend. The insect is held level and centred, with clear space all round it, so it can be studied from any side. Since each one is an individual specimen, its markings and the angle of its legs differ from one cylinder to another.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eOn a bookcase, a console or a side table it has the air of a curiosity cabinet and draws people in for a closer look. At 37cm it sits at a comfortable viewing height on a sideboard, close to eye level for someone in an armchair. A plain pale wall behind it shows off the lattice of the wings, while a darker one makes the amber edges glow. Each cylinder is supplied singly and made to order, with work starting when your order arrives. Commissioned bespoke, it can hold another insect, a sprig of dried leaves or a few seed heads, or be made at another height or as a square-sided block. Soft padding and an upright box protect it in transit, and its flat foot lets it stand steady as soon as the wrapping comes off.
