The circle is left open, and each side of the opening is heavy with a rough, crumpled crust of gold leaf. Dark marble forms its base and is supplied with the ring.

Gold Leaf on a Ring Left Almost Clear

Keeping the ring almost clear makes it read as glass, and that is what lets the gold stand out so strongly: two rough, bright masses facing each other across the opening, joined by a curve of nearly invisible resin. The faint smoke near the foot gives the clear curve just enough depth to show its shape. Each crust is gilded by hand and sealed, and the curve is polished until it throws back the light of the room around it, so the clear part almost disappears.

Rising to 60cm, it fits a sideboard or a broad console that leaves plenty of clear space on either side. A clear ring suits almost any colour scheme, and the gold warms a cool room. With a bright window or pale wall beyond it, the curve all but vanishes and the two gold masses seem to float.

Gold, Clear Resin and Shipping

Whether it is standard or bespoke sets the build: 3–4 weeks or 5–6. The smoke can be drawn further up the curve or removed for a ring that is entirely clear, and silver or copper leaf can replace the gold. The opening is set to suit, wide or narrow. It is packed flat in a crate made to its shape, a support wedged into the opening and the base boxed apart, and it should be carried out by two people working together. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.

Gold-crusted ends on a nearly clear ring belong with our organic sculptures; clear resin touched with faint smoke leads to our resin sculptures, and a gilded piece for a hallway console joins our indoor sculptures.

Specification

Height

54cm

Width

53cm

Depth

12cm

Base

25 x 20 x 6cm

Material

Clear Cast Resin with Gold Leaf on Black Marble
