Two summits stand well above the rest, and the ground between them dips a long way before the second rises. It is slim from front to back, and the same pattern is also made in a blue and white version, sold as its own product.

One Pattern That Reads as Two Materials

This casting and its blue version come from one pattern, and they are not the same object. Colourless with a little gold, it reads as ice: something transparent that light goes into. In blue and white the same faces read as glazed porcelain, opaque and painted. Nothing about the form has changed and the category has. That is worth knowing before choosing, because the decision is not a colour preference - it is a decision about what material the piece appears to be made of.

Being colourless it is nothing without light through it, so a glass shelf or a position beside a lamp earns its keep, and the gold flecks catch whatever light it is given. The blue version does not: being opaque it holds up against a wall or in a dim corner where this one would vanish. Either way it asks for a run of surface rather than depth.

The Two Versions, and Getting It Home

Production takes approximately 3–4 weeks for a standard piece, or 5–6 weeks for a bespoke commission. One pattern gives a colourless casting that reads as ice and a blue and white one that reads as glazed porcelain. Either casting can be ordered, the flake can be spread more thickly, and other lengths of ridge are possible. The blue is the easier of the two to place and the colourless is the harder and the better where there is light. It is crated flat to its full length with both summits faced, and two people carry it level. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.

A clear ridge that reads as ice belongs with our organic sculptures; a sparse scatter of gold leaf sets it among our resin sculptures, and a long ridge set where light reaches it suits our indoor sculptures.

Specification

Height

48cm

Width

110cm

Depth

18cm

Material

Clear Cast Resin with Gold Leaf Flecks
