Unpierced, it is read entirely from its surface, ridge by ridge. Its black marble base is part of the order.

Gold Caught in a Clear Draped Skirt

Without colour, the folds of the skirt are drawn by their own edges: every ridge picks up a bright line and every hollow goes grey, so the clear resin looks like crumpled glass. The gold sits sparingly along the folds, a few torn flakes at a time, so it reads as a glint at the turns rather than as a pattern laid over the surface. Below the skirt the stem turns a quarter of the way round as it rises, and above it the clear skirt seems to float, held up by almost nothing.

Its 58cm suits a desk or a console in lamplight, which brings the gold to life; a cool downlight leaves the flakes dull. A dark wall behind it makes both the gold and the bright edges of the folds stand out, and side light deepens the hollows. It needs little surface, as the base is small.

Leaf Along the Folds, and Delivery

Every standard piece is made in 3–4 weeks, and every bespoke commission in 5–6. The leaf can be thickened into a heavy scatter or cut back to a few flakes, and the gold can give way to silver or copper. A smoke or a tint can be cast into the body for a darker piece. Its base can be cut from a lighter stone. It is crated in foam shaped round the skirt, the base in a separate box, and it is held round the stem and beneath the skirt. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.

A clear draped twist with gold along its folds sits among our abstract sculptures; folds read by their edges alone join it to our organic sculptures, and torn leaf glinting where the folds turn suits our resin sculptures.

Specification

Height

52cm

Width

31cm

Depth

15cm

Base

20 x 15 x 6cm

Material

Clear Cast Resin with Gold Leaf and Black Marble Base
