It is slim, and nothing goes under it.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003ch2\u003eA Rough Face Over a Clear Body\u003c\/h2\u003e\u003cp\u003eA frosted face scatters light instead of passing it, so everything inside the piece is seen through a mist rather than clearly. That changes what can be put in it. Leaf torn to the size used on a polished casting disappears entirely behind a rough face - it becomes a pale smudge at a pace away - so the flake here is torn noticeably coarser than it would be on a clear piece of the same size. The finish and the inclusion are one decision, taken together, and either changed on its own gives an object that looks underfed or overloaded.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eIt is made to be handled and it will be. A low table, a desk or a shelf met at the eye all bring the frosted surface within reach, which is where the contrast between the rough face and the clear interior actually reads. From across a room it is simply a small pale mountain. It takes very little surface and needs light from the side rather than above.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003ch2\u003eFinish, Flake Size, and Getting It Home\u003c\/h2\u003e\u003cp\u003eWhere the piece is standard the build is 3–4 weeks, and where it is bespoke 5–6. The face is left frosted and the body behind it is clear, so the flake had to be torn coarser than a polished piece would need. The finish is taken to a polish, the flake is sized up or down, and a tint is carried through the body. Polishing the face turns it into a different object - clear all the way through - and is worth comparing before deciding. It travels in one padded box bedded round the whole outline, and it is lifted out with one hand.
