The tallest is nearly twice the next and the group descends in uneven steps rather than evenly. The casting is left exactly as it comes out: untinted, unflecked and unmounted.

One Summit Has to Be Clearly First

Five summits in one range is the number at which the eye starts looking for an order, and if it cannot find one the piece reads as a row rather than as a landscape. The answer is a hierarchy that is more emphatic than it looks: the first summit here is close to twice the height of the second, which on paper seems crude and in the object reads as natural, because real ranges are not democratic. The four behind it then step down unevenly, and the unevenness is what stops the descent turning into a scale. Draw them in even decrements and the range becomes a graph.

It stands on nothing, and the surface under it becomes the plain the range rises from. A pale stone or a plain timber surface does that well; a patterned one puts marks through the lower slopes and the range appears to float. It asks to be seen square on and from a little beneath, which means a low console rather than a high one. Allow its full length and keep the space in front of it clear.

The Hierarchy, a Tint, and Delivery

Count on the difference between standard and bespoke: 3–4 weeks or 5–6. One summit stands nearly twice the height of the next, and that hierarchy is what makes five peaks a range rather than a row. The number of summits is set at order, the material takes a tint, and the ridge is cut to other lengths. Bringing the peaks closer in height makes a calmer and much flatter object, which suits a position where the piece should not dominate. It arrives in a single long case, the foot bedded and every summit packed apart from its neighbour, and two people take it out by the ends. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.

One summit leading four lesser peaks belongs with our organic sculptures; an untinted ridge in uneven steps puts it in our resin sculptures, and a long plain of pale stone beneath it suits our indoor sculptures.

Specification

Height

55cm

Width

120cm

Depth

28cm

Material

Clear Cast Resin
