A slender arch stands in the bowl beneath the band, and above it a looping arm rises to two upright tips, every part of it colourless.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003ch2\u003eA Splash With No Tint at All\u003c\/h2\u003e\u003cp\u003eClear resin hides nothing, so a colourless piece is judged entirely on its form and its finish. Every surface of this splash has to be glassy, because a dull patch would show at once, and every edge has to be crisp enough to hold a highlight, since edges and reflections are all there is to describe the shape. The twisted band is the passage that asks the eye to work: its ribbons overlap and are followed by the bright lines along their rims. At 81cm it rests on a sideboard, a reception desk or a low plinth with its loop rising to eye level, and it takes on whatever lies behind it: before a coloured wall the whole splash picks up that colour, and before a window it turns into a play of light on edges.
