Crumpled flakes in tan and deep brown gather in clusters, in the tower and among the hollows near the foot.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003ch2\u003eA Beaten Surface on a Tower and a Dome\u003c\/h2\u003e\u003cp\u003eThe resin is imported and clear, and the dimpling covers it so completely that the rock reads almost silver until you look into it, when the clear body and the flakes appear. The tower keeps sharp corners and a level top; the dome is soft and full; the two meet in a deep crease. The flakes are crumpled rather than flat, a papery tan in some clusters and a deep brown in others, and they gather in small drifts. Each rock's dimpling and its drifts of flakes are its own.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eAt 39cm it sits comfortably on a hall table, a bookshelf or the end of a desk, and it is solid enough in outline to hold a sideboard alone. The dimpled surface comes alive under a spotlight or beside a window, scattering points of brightness, while a dark shelf behind it deepens the browns of the flakes. The flakes can gather in heavier drifts or thin out to a handful, or they can be left out to keep the rock plain, and a smooth, undimpled surface can be ordered for a quieter rock. The design is offered in other sizes too. Each order is for one rock. It leaves us in a fitted crate, and it should be lifted from beneath the broad mass, never by the tower or the dome.
