The scales are worked into the mould and the hoods are polished inside as well as out, since a clear figure is read from behind. The rope moulding round the plinth is turned and holds its pitch the whole way round. The three heads are faced level to a common plane and the glass is bedded on all three at once.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eAt 45cm it sits by the arm of a chair, its glass letting the cobras be seen from above as well as through the side. The cobras need light reaching them from the side to be read at all: a downlight puts the glass in the way and leaves the base in shadow.
