It lifts at one end into a high curl folding back on itself, coils through a loop with one round opening pierced through it and sends a short horn of spray upward, then sinks over its block before rising into a rank of crests and running out into a broad tongue of water at the far end. With no tint anywhere, every fold shows only as an edge of highlight and reflection. The folds have to be clean and the surfaces flawless, because clear resin hides nothing: each ripple, the rim of the pierced loop and the knuckled crest near the far tip all read through highlights and the faint grey of whatever lies behind them. Polished to a high gloss, the wave picks up the colours of the room around it, so it looks different on a dark sideboard from how it looks against a pale wall. Below it, the marble block gives the clear water a firm, dark edge to rise from.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eIt needs room to run, so a long console, a reception desk or a credenza suits it best, ideally with a dark wall or dark wood behind it, against which the clear water stands out most sharply. A spotlight from above or from the side catches every fold and edge. In a minimal room of white and grey it becomes almost a drawing in light. As a commission the clear resin can be given a faint tint of any colour, or frosted at the crests so they read as white spray, and the black marble can give way to white marble or another stone. It can be cast at a different scale on the same line. It ships in a single padded crate with the block packed separately, and it is raised with both hands beneath the middle, keeping clear of the curled end and the tip.
