clear-branching-spray-column-resin-sculpture-224cm
Clear Branching Spray Column Resin Sculpture - 224cm

Description

A slender column of clear water climbs from a loose coil at its foot and branches as it rises, like a young tree in winter. Short twigs break from it all the way up, a pierced swelling partway up gives the column some weight, and a finger of spray runs up beside it before the top opens into a plain two-pronged fork. Down at the foot the water winds round into a knot of several strands with short horns along it, and a spray of antler-like fingers reaches out low to one side. It is cast in clear resin and colourless from end to end.

A Clear Column Branching Up From a Coiled Foot

Height is the whole idea, and the column is drawn to carry the eye up it. It starts heavy in the coil, where several strands of water wind round one another and throw up short horns, and it thins steadily as it climbs, swelling once around a pierced section before narrowing again towards the fork. The twigs along its length point up and out at different angles, so the line never reads as a pole. Clear resin keeps all of this light: every strand and twig carries a bright edge, and the room shows through the gaps between them.

At 224cm it climbs far over the heads of anyone standing beside it, which suits a double-height hall, a stairwell or a hotel atrium, where it can be met from the floor and seen again from a landing above. Give it a plain wall or an open window behind, so the slender top is not lost, and room around the coil for the low spray of fingers to reach out freely. A downlight above sets the twigs glinting. Indoor use only.

The Fork, the Coil and Moving It

Plan for 3–4 weeks on a standard piece and 5–6 weeks on a bespoke commission. The price is for this one column, sold on its own. On commission it can be given a tint, deep in the coil and clearing towards the fork, its twigs can be drawn out longer or kept close to the stem, and the spray at the foot can be made to reach further out. Support the coil from beneath whenever it is moved and steady the column at its middle, never letting the fork or a twig take any weight. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.

A clear column that branches upward from a knotted coil and forks at its tip rises among our organic sculptures, our resin sculptures and our indoor sculptures.

Specification

Height

224cm

Width

110cm

Depth

35cm

Material

Clear Cast Resin
