It has to hold one continuous radius from one side panel to the other while staying the same width along its whole length, and because it meets each panel at a right angle the two ends must arrive square to a surface that is itself perfectly flat. Any twist in the band shows as a gap at one end, and a gap on a colourless butt joint cannot be filled. The panels are selected for flatness, since a large flat clear sheet with any waviness in it distorts everything seen through the chair. All arrises are polished, including the ones facing inward where a sitter's arm falls. The cushion is filled to sit proud of the rails rather than flush with them.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eThe chair is broad and low-backed, so it reads horizontally and suits a wall where a tall chair would break the line: behind a sofa, in a bay, in an office where a visitor's chair should not dominate. The two flat side panels act as mirrors from an angle, which means whatever stands beside the chair appears in it, so give it a plain neighbour. The taupe cushion is the only thing holding the chair to a colour scheme. Cushion fabric and colour are chosen from a range, and a leather cushion is available where the weave is too soft. The band can be set higher for more back support, or taken wider. A tint is available in either the band or the panels, and the two need not match. Panel thickness can be increased for a heavier read. The chair travels as three parts, two panels and a band, bonded on arrival along the band ends, so nothing arrives at full width. Each panel is a two-person lift since a flat sheet is awkward rather than heavy. The cushion is bagged separately and dropped in last.
