Each collar gathers the light passing along the member and throws a bright ring, so a collar cut a fraction too deep announces itself down the whole length of the leg. The nodes are therefore set out to a pitch that stays constant across members of different lengths, which means the pitch is measured from the joints inward rather than from one end. The reeded back panel is cut as a run of fine parallel flutes and is the one place where the frame stops imitating cane. The cushion is quilted in a grid and buttoned through.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eA crest rail that continues into the arms is a form built for a room with some formality in it, and at 88cm the back sits high enough to read as a chair of state rather than an occasional seat. It suits the head of a dining table, a study, or a desk where a working chair would look wrong. The green cushion is what carries across a room, so read it against the wall behind. A pair either side of a console works well. Node pitch can be opened out for a bolder cane, and the reeded back panel can be replaced with a plain one or left open. A tint is available in the turned members. Seat height can be set to a particular table. Each chair arrives assembled with the cushion loose, and it is a two-person lift because the arms make an awkward carry for one. Where a pair or a set is ordered the frames are matched for node alignment before they ship, which is worth having: misaligned nodes are obvious when two chairs stand together.
