The green gathers in the middle of the body, where the form turns, and clears towards the edges and the reaching tip. A slab of black marble is included beneath it.

Green at the Heart of a Long Reach

A long reach needs a still centre, and the green supplies it: the colour sits where the body turns, the one place the eye returns to, while the reaching parts stay clear and light. That keeps the overhang from looking heavy, even though the flare extends far past the block. The clear resin around the green shows its depth, and the polish draws a bright line along the reaching edge. Each casting places the green a little differently, and no two hearts are the same shape.

It needs room in front and to one side, because the tip travels a long way past its block: a sideboard with open space around it, or a plinth in a large room. A pale wall shows the clear parts; the green reads against almost anything. Side light throws a long shadow of the reach across the wall.

More Green or Less, and a Careful Lift

Ordinarily a standard piece needs 3–4 weeks and a bespoke commission 5–6. The green can be spread further through the body or held to its heart, or swapped for a different colour. The overhang can be shortened, and the block moves with it. The rose and copper original and a grey and green version are sold as their own pieces. It is crated with the long arm braced, and two people lift it from the block side, keeping clear of the tip. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.

Clear castings with a single colour at their heart continue in our resin sculptures, and more wind-swept pieces are collected in our contemporary and modern sculptures and our indoor sculptures.

Specification

Height

96cm

Width

72cm

Depth

22cm

Base

25 x 20 x 6cm

Material

Cast Resin in Clear and Green on Black Marble
