The outline is open, so the room is seen through the frame as well as through the resin.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003ch2\u003eAn Arrangement That Cannot Be Changed Afterwards\u003c\/h2\u003e\u003cp\u003eOnce the leaves are inside the plate nothing about them can be moved, so the arrangement is decided in one go and the piece is either right or it is begun again. That is why no two of these come out alike and why the outline is cut afterwards, against where the leaves actually fell rather than where they were meant to. A body of this depth holds the leaves at the angle they are set at, and nothing afterwards moves them: the arrangement is decided once. Both faces are polished and the cut edge with them, with the leaves left matt inside.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eIt belongs on a desk with something behind it that can be lit. Behind it, something dark. Gilt against a bright wall stops being gilt. Backlight puts the leaves into the air; front light lays them on the surface. Say the word and more leaves are set through it, the gilt is exchanged, or the opening is cut elsewhere. Cut the outline differently and the leaves are re-placed inside it, since they are set against the edge rather than on a grid. Where the outline is cut is settled against the leaves.
