Everything else is clear resin, apart from a pale grey-blue tint that runs along the rim. The petal tips flare outward, and the chair swivels on a chrome column set in a polished chrome disc.

Cobalt Ink Rising Like Smoke

The blue sits in the centre and is left free to spread: dense at the base of the back, it billows upward and outward in soft folds and fine curling edges, thinning as it climbs. Around it the resin stays transparent, so the folds of the shell show behind the ink and give the blue its depth. The rim is tinted a smoky grey-blue that echoes the plume without competing with it. Chrome below keeps the whole palette cool, and its mirror finish repeats a little of the blue.

Cobalt, clear and chrome suit a crisp modern room of white walls, grey stone, glass and steel. It works at a dressing table, at a desk or by a bedroom window, where daylight lifts the blue and makes the plume read at its strongest. It swivels on its column. Set the chrome disc on a firm, level floor. Indoor use only.

Plume Size, Base Finish and the Two Parts

Our workshops take 3–4 weeks over a standard piece and 5–6 over a bespoke commission. The plume can be asked for fuller or kept slight, and the blue taken darker or paler. Chrome is this stand's finish, and black or either brass can be chosen instead. The ink is introduced by hand, so each plume spreads in its own way. Shell and column ship separately and are fixed together with bolts through the seat plate, using the fixings packed with the chair. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.

Cobalt ink in clear resin brings this chair into our art furniture; its chrome column sits among our metal sculptures, and its unfolding petals in our organic sculptures.

Specification

Size

H80cm, W61cm, D55cm

Base

Weighted Disc, Swivel and Gas Lift

Material

Cast Resin Shell, Metal Column
