Ink held at a depth is the only kind of mark that has parallax. Move a pace to either side and the drifts shift against the outline, which is something no printed or painted mark on a surface can do. Ink held at a depth in a clear body moves as you move, and the clearing at the crest is an absence of material rather than a change of colour. Polished all over, with the inner face of the curl taken to the same grade as the outer.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eA sideboard or a wide shelf at seated height, where the clearing at the top is above the eye. It wants a pale ground, so the ink reads as drift rather than as a flaw in the casting. Light from behind opens the drifts up and takes the crest away altogether. The silhouette reads from the door and the ink is a near fact, which is the division this whole design is built on.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003ch2\u003eSpreading the Ink, and One Crate\u003c\/h2\u003e\u003cp\u003eTime separates the two: a bespoke commission takes 5–6 weeks, a standard piece 3–4. The ink can be spread through the whole body, it can be left out altogether, and the stone can be exchanged. Spread the ink to the crest and the rise stops reading as a rise, because the emptying is what gives the form its direction. One crate holds both parts, the stone laid where it is going and the casting set onto it. Two people, hands under the mass and not on the crest.
