Across the top sits a broad, flat fluke spread out to both sides, gently undulating along its length. Warm amber covers its upper face and both rounded ends glow a deep red-orange, while towards one end the fluke clears and pales.

A Broad Amber Fluke Laid Level Across a Leaning Trunk

The tail is built as a T, a leaning trunk with a fluke spread level across its top, and that gives it two characters: calm and balanced when met square on, full of movement from the side, where the lean of the trunk shows. The colour completes it. The trunk stays clear, its soft folds catching thin lines of highlight, and the amber begins only at the flare, running down into the clear in streaks before it spreads across the whole upper face of the fluke and deepens to red-orange at the two rounded ends. The undulation along the fluke keeps that broad, flat shape from ever looking rigid.

A floor position suits it, in a lobby, a gallery space or a generous living room, set where the fluke can be seen square on and both of its ends read against open space. Light from above or from one side catches the amber across the top and the red-orange at the ends, and a window behind it turns the whole fluke into a band of warm colour. Keep the wall behind plain, so that the clear trunk stays legible. Indoor use only.

The Fluke's Colour, the Trunk and Delivery

Figure the difference between standard and bespoke at 3–4 weeks against 5–6. As a commission the amber can go deeper, towards copper, or paler, towards straw, the red-orange at the ends can be kept or softened, and the fluke spread wider or curved more sharply at its tips. The trunk can keep its folds or be polished smooth, and the whole form can be scaled up or down with fluke and trunk in proportion. It is crated upright with the fluke supported at both ends, and it is lifted by the trunk and the foot, never by either end of the fluke. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.

A broad amber fluke spread level over a leaning clear trunk brings this tail to our organic sculptures, our resin sculptures and our contemporary and modern sculptures.

Specification

Height

93cm

Width

96cm

Depth

82cm

Material

Cast Clear Resin with an Amber Fluke Glowing Red-Orange at Its Ends
