At the left end the crest leans in towards the middle, an oval hole near its shoulder, and splits at the top into one upright prong and one that reaches out across the gap; at the right end the crest bends back towards it, pierced by small round openings below its slender point. A cluster of fingers rises between them, on the left a holed arm stretches away along the ground, and at the right a tall finger of spray branches out.

Blue Water Thinning to Clear in Two Crests

The blue is graded from the foot upward, densest in the rolling water at the base, where it is a clear, bright mid-blue, and fading through sky blue into colourless resin about halfway up the crests. The change from blue to clear is gradual, with nothing to mark it. Because the colour holds the heavy, gathered part of the wave and leaves the thrown parts clear, the piece reads as deep water breaking into spray, and the openings in both crests and the gap between their tips stay crisp against the room. Every surface is polished, so the clear upper reaches catch a highlight along each edge and the blue foot keeps a glassy sheen all along its length.

Run it along a sideboard, a chest of drawers or a low bookcase and face it square to the room, so both crests are taken in together. Daylight falling across it from the side brings up the blue in the foot and keeps the clear crests sharp-edged, and a pale, plain wall behind keeps the colour fresh, though the clear tips need that plain ground to stay visible. It suits a room with white, grey or sand-coloured walls. Indoor use only.

How High the Blue Climbs, and Handling

Once ordered, a standard piece takes 3–4 weeks and a bespoke one 5–6. One wave is supplied, its blue held in the foot and its crests left clear. On commission the colour can reach further up the crests or stay low in the foot, and be mixed deeper or paler, while the space between the crests can be widened or closed up and the central cluster drawn up further or kept short. To move it, take the blue foot at both ends, keeping hands off the crests and the fingers, and stand it where the surface is firm and level. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.

Bright blue water clearing to glassy crests and spray takes this long wave to our organic sculptures, our resin sculptures and our indoor sculptures.

Specification

Height

64cm

Width

120cm

Depth

26cm

Material

Graded Blue and Clear Cast Resin
