The highest summit is set left of centre, and a crowd of minor peaks follows the ridge out on either side until it ends in a fine point. There is no base: the casting itself rests on whatever surface takes it.

Blue at the Foot, Clear at the Crowns

The blue is heavy where the range meets its ground and thinning as each peak rises, so the colour describes the mountain the way weather does: deep shadow in the valleys, light on the heights. Where the resin is thickest the blue is darkest, so every gully between two peaks shows as a deeper stroke and the outline is drawn twice, once by the edge and once by the tint. Polished faces keep the clear crowns bright against the coloured mass under them.

Set it where it is seen from the front, along a credenza or a long sideboard with a wall behind. Side light pushes the blue deeper in each valley, and a pale wall lets the clear crowns show, where a dark one would swallow them. It wants length rather than depth, plus some breathing space past both of its ends.

The Depth of the Blue, and Delivery

Standard pieces take 3–4 weeks and bespoke commissions 5–6. Blue can climb further up the peaks or stay close to the ground, a deeper or paler mix is made to order, and another length of range can be cast. Flecks of gold leaf can be added to the clear crowns for a warmer piece, and the polish can give way to a frosted skin that turns the blue to ice. Delivery is in a long crate lined with foam, the ridge cradled from beneath, and it needs two people to lift. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.

A blue range clearing at its crowns belongs with our organic sculptures; blue pooled in every valley puts it in our resin sculptures, and its clear tips against a pale wall bring it into our indoor sculptures.

Specification

Height

26cm

Width

85cm

Depth

12cm

Material

Blue Graded Cast Resin
