No block or plinth is supplied; the piece finishes on two clear legs cast as part of it.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003ch2\u003eWhere the Blue Runs Out\u003c\/h2\u003e\u003cp\u003eColour that drains down a stack rather than up it puts the weight of the piece where the eye expects the least, and the two clear feet are what make that reversal visible. Nothing in the arrangement is level and nothing in it is accidental: each block is set at an angle that leaves the mass above it supported at one corner, and the two legs at the foot are what turn a pile into a standing object. Blue this saturated in a body you can see through gives a colour that changes with the thickness in front of it, so every face reads a different strength of the same blue. Every face is polished, including the undersides of the leaning blocks, which are in view from a seat.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eIt suits a cabinet top beside a doorway, or the end of a run of shelving, where it is met at an angle rather than square on. A pale plain wall. Blue against a busy ground stops registering as blue at all. Light from one side puts a bright edge on every cut face and a shadow inside every gap between them. The silhouette of the lean reads from the far side of a room; the drift of the blue only arrives within a couple of paces.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003ch2\u003eBlue Down to the Feet, and Getting It There\u003c\/h2\u003e\u003cp\u003eMost pieces are standard and take 3–4 weeks; a bespoke commission takes 5–6. The blue can be carried further down the body, the count of blocks can change, and a stone block can be put under it. Carry the blue to the feet and the piece loses its gradient: the colour has to run out somewhere for the drift to be visible at all. It arrives in one crate on its own feet, and it wants a surface that is flat before it is level. One person carries it. Take the weight under the lowest block and never by a projecting corner.
