Below that edge the body changes character completely and becomes craggy and irregular, closer to a quarried block than to a piece of furniture, and the top itself is left in shallow ripples rather than flattened.

A Sawtooth Rim Over a Roughly Quarried Body

The teeth are the only regular thing about this blue resin table, and setting them against a broken body is the design. Every tooth matches the next in pitch and depth, so the rim reads as a drawn line from across a room, while the mass beneath it reads as something found. The two finishes meet on a hard edge with no transition, which is what stops the piece looking merely rough. Across the top the ripples spread in overlapping rings, as if rain had just begun to fall on it. The blue is deepest at the base and pales towards the toothed rim, so the table sits dark on the floor and light where a hand rests.

The top stands at coffee-table height, so it works in front of a sofa or between facing armchairs, with the toothed edge just below the line of sight from a seat. It is close to circular, which means it can be approached from any side and does not need to be squared to the seating. Set it on a flatweave or a hard floor rather than deep pile, because the base is irregular and a soft surface lets it rock. A tray or a stone slab across the ripples gives a level place for a glass. Indoor use only.

Tooth Pitch, and a Level Panel If You Need One

Expect 3–4 weeks for a standard piece and 5–6 weeks where the commission is bespoke. The rippled top is the one thing about this table that people ask to change, and there is a proper answer to it: a flat polished panel is let into the top, flush with the ripples around it, giving a level working area without turning the whole surface into a plain disc. It is specified by size and position at order, and it is the alternative to living with a tray. The tooth pitch is set finer or coarser, or dropped altogether for a plain broken edge where the sawtooth is too insistent for the room. Tints come from the studio range. Delivery is in a fitted crate with the drum standing upright, and because the teeth are the first thing to meet an edge the piece is unpacked from above rather than tipped out, then lifted around the body by two people with no hand over the rim. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.

A coffee table first, it is grouped with our art furniture; its quarried flanks and toothed edge also suit our organic sculptures, and the deep blue drum our resin sculptures.

Specification

Size

H40cm, W105cm, D110cm

Material

Translucent Blue Resin

Construction

Hollow Cast
