Under the middle stands a thick column of the same turquoise material, banded in rough horizontal pleats and flared at the top and the foot. At one end a gold column widens from a broad disc foot to meet the top. At the other a gold teardrop hangs below the edge and stops short of the floor, so the piece carries its weight on the pleated column and the gold one.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003ch2\u003eA Pool of Resin Held on a Pleated Column\u003c\/h2\u003e\u003cp\u003eThe ripples are worked into the mould rather than cut afterwards, and they run out from the centre without stopping at a line. The scalloped edge is trued by hand all the way round. The pleated column is cast separately and set under the middle of the top. The gold parts are stainless steel finished to a mirror, and the drop is polished on every side because it is seen from underneath as well as across. Colour sits in the resin itself, so it will not wear off an edge, and no two pours carry the ripple in quite the same place.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eAt counter height it makes an entrance piece, one to pass and look down on rather than to pull a chair up to: the ripples show best from above and the gold drop from the side, so a lobby, a wide entrance hall or a large reception room suits it. Leave the end with the drop clear of a wall, because that side is the one that carries the movement.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003ch2\u003eThe Drop, the Gold Finish, and the Two Supports\u003c\/h2\u003e\u003cp\u003eFigure the difference between standard and bespoke at 3–4 weeks against 5–6. Three elements are left to you. The turquoise can be replaced with another tint or left colourless, the gold finish can be supplied in a warmer or a cooler tone, and the hanging drop can be brought down to the floor as a third support instead of stopping clear of it. You name the top length and the overall height. Order more than one together and how far the ripple rings spread across the top is matched across them. Crated with the scalloped rim and the hanging drop protected, it is a four-person lift.
