Its whole surface is rough and granular, like ice that has been split rather than polished. The colour runs from a pale aqua across the summit to a deep, saturated blue at the foot, with flecks of green caught in the darker passages.

A Blue Summit Under a Granular Skin

Nothing on this rock is polished, and that is deliberate: every face is worked to a fine broken grain that turns a highlight into a soft glimmer, so a block of clear blue resin reads as stone and not as glass. The form climbs in stages, a low shoulder first, then the notch, then the summit, which gives the outline a pause before it rises. The blue sits deepest where the mass is greatest, and the summit, where the material is thinnest, stays pale and almost clear.

At 46cm it is at home on a broad coffee table, a hall table or a sideboard, where the peak can be seen against a plain wall. It is at its best from a seated height, when the notch and the summit show in outline. A deep-coloured surface beneath it strengthens the blue, while white bleaches the summit. Light from one side brings out the granular skin. Indoor use only.

The Summit, the Blue and Delivery

Making a standard piece takes 3–4 weeks, and making a bespoke one 5–6. Other colourings are made, jade green, amber or a colourless rock with no gradient at all, and the deepest tone can be set at the summit instead of the foot. The granular skin can give way to a polish, which makes the rock far brighter and much less like stone. It needs no base, since its underside is cast flat. It is boxed alone with the summit and the notch protected, and a single person can manage the lift. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.

A blue peak rising from a shoulder belongs with our abstract sculptures; a summit to set before a sofa joins our indoor sculptures, and a rock shaped like a mountain sits among our organic sculptures.

Specification

Height

30cm

Width

46cm

Depth

40cm

Material

Cast Blue Resin
