It stands on a plain dark base block set well in from both ends.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003ch2\u003eA Coastline Where Blue Resin Meets Stacked Timber\u003c\/h2\u003e\u003cp\u003eThe blue meets the timber along a wandering line rather than a straight edge, so what divides the two materials looks like a shoreline instead of an inlay. The pale swirls sit inside the blue and follow the section, which is why they read as depth from a standing position and flatten out from a seated one. The top face is ground and polished after the whole slab has cured, so the resin and the end grain of the timber come up to one plane. The blue is deepest at the top face and opens out as it runs down towards the timber, and both long edges are taken to the same polish as the top.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eSeating ten to twelve, it becomes the centrepiece of a room rather than one more piece of furniture, so check every doorway and corner on the route in before ordering. The base stands well in from both ends, which leaves them clear for a chair, and the blue top wants light from above to bring the swirls up out of the material.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003ch2\u003eThe Seam, the Base, and the Delivery Route\u003c\/h2\u003e\u003cp\u003eBespoke commissions take 5–6 weeks; standard pieces take 3–4. Most of it is the coastline seam. There are three open questions. The blue can be taken to another tint, the timber species is chosen when the order is placed, and the base block can be built to a different height. The slab length and the plinth height are open figures. Nothing holds the wander of the seam between separate orders. The packing is shaped to the blue top face and the stacked timber edge, and moving it is a four-person job.
