Nothing else is on the piece.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003ch2\u003eFour Half-Spheres Under One Dark Disc\u003c\/h2\u003e\u003cp\u003eA half-sphere is the least forgiving form to finish, because the eye knows what a sphere should be and reads any flat spot instantly. All four are worked to the same radius and then frosted together, since a frost applied in separate runs varies in depth and four domes of different depths would read as four colours. They also have to finish at exactly the same height: there is no adjustment under them and a disc this wide on four domes shows the slightest difference as a rock. The disc's matt face is worked last and is the slowest part, an even matt over that span being harder to hold than a polish.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eIt sits unusually low, so this suits a room with low seating rather than a standard sofa. It works best where you look across it rather than down into it, since the domes are the argument and they read from a seated eye level. A pale floor lifts the frosted domes forward and makes the dark disc appear to hover; over a dark floor the domes vanish. It wants a level floor.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003ch2\u003eDome Count, Disc Tint and Placing It Level\u003c\/h2\u003e\u003cp\u003eIt takes 3–4 weeks to make as standard, and 5–6 weeks to make bespoke. Dome count can be taken to three for a lighter read or five under a wider disc, and the domes are offered clear as well as frosted. Disc size is cut to order, the tint is offered paler or stronger as well as colourless, and the matt face can be polished instead. Disc and domes travel separately and the domes are bonded to the underside on arrival in a marked pattern, which is what keeps all four at one height. Two people are wanted for the disc, carried on edge. The domes are a one-person carry, each boxed.
