It is supplied on its own marble base.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003ch2\u003eAn Upright Casting Has to Earn Its Foot\u003c\/h2\u003e\u003cp\u003eA casting this tall on so shallow a plan is the awkward case, and everything about the foot here follows from it. The ragged spread at the bottom is not decoration. It is drawn wide and drawn heavy so the centre of mass sits well inside the footprint, and the broken edges are where the extra material is put. The grade works with it: the dense blue lies in exactly the part of the object that carries the most material, and the head is left almost empty. Colour and ballast are the same decision here, which is unusual.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eAt 88cm on its marble it reads as a floor object that happens to be on a surface, so it wants a low console or a hall piece rather than a bookshelf. Give it room and stand it clear of a wall, because the notch in the head only opens up from slightly off the axis. Light from the side does the most for it: the frosted head takes the light and holds it while the blue foot stays dark, which is what makes the grade read as depth rather than as paint.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003ch2\u003eThe Grade, the Tint, and Delivery\u003c\/h2\u003e\u003cp\u003eSet aside 3–4 weeks for a standard piece and 5–6 weeks for a bespoke commission. The grade is set at order, the blue is taken to a teal, and the notch is cut deeper or closed up. The rock is also cast with a teal foot, sold as its own product. A version graded to a pale grey-green is made as its own product too. A polished version is made and is a completely different object, because polishing removes the frosting the whole grade depends on. It ships in one upright braced crate with the marble packed flat beneath it, and two people carry it by the foot.
