Casting it hollow gives the faces an even wall, and an even wall is what spreads the light inside evenly across them, where a solid casting would glow only at its centre. The blue is laid deepest where two facets meet, so the edges read as lines of darker colour around the lit body.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eIt stands beside a doorway or at a corridor's end, or on a low plinth in a study or a sitting room, where its light marks the space in the evening. By day it is a column of clear blue against the wall. The crystal can be drawn higher or broader with more facets or fewer, and the blue deepened, paled or changed for another tint, from aqua to amber. The point can be cut blunter or sharper, and the facets polished clear or frosted to soften the glow. It is crated upright, bedded in foam cut to its facets, with the point capped separately, and it is carried by two, hands at the foot.
