It is there to put the crown above a standing eye, and the whole figure is drawn knowing it will be met from below: the folds open upward and there is nothing on the underside worth turning it for. A saturated body carries a fold differently from a clear one: there is no shadow in it anywhere, and every fold is read by how much blue the eye has to look through instead. Polished the whole way up, with the crown left thin at its edge.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eIt wants a hall floor or a wide landing, with the crown above the eye. A pale wall behind it, because a body this saturated goes to silhouette against anything dark. Backlight fills the folds; front light returns one flat blue and loses them. The silhouette carries; the folds are a near fact.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003ch2\u003eThinning the Blue, and a Trolley at the Door\u003c\/h2\u003e\u003cp\u003eStandard pieces take 3–4 weeks and bespoke commissions 5–6. On request the blue is thinned, the crown is drawn fuller, or a different stone goes beneath. Thin the blue and the folds are cut deeper to answer it, since a paler body has less depth to be read through. How deep the blue runs is settled before casting. It ships upright in a single crate with the block beneath. Three people and a trolley, keeping it upright throughout.
