The resin is blue throughout, a pale aqua over one lobe with a faint green cast at its outer edge, deepening to a saturated azure across the other lobe and the curve where the two meet. Both hollows are left clear, with a soft, misty look like frost on a window. One lobe stays pale, an airy aqua with a hint of green along its outer edge, while the other deepens to a strong azure that pools in the curve where the lobes join the stem. The two hollows are kept free of colour and have a soft, frosted look, so they read as pockets of light set into the blue. Highlights run around the thick rims, and the whole shell has a cool, watery clarity, like sea water over pale sand.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003ePlaced on a sideboard just below eye level, it opens its clear hollows towards you. A white or pale grey wall keeps the blue fresh and bright, while daylight from a window behind makes the azure glow and the hollows shine. It brings a calm, cool note to a bedroom or a study, and sits easily in a coastal scheme of white paint and pale timber. Indoor use only.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003ch2\u003eBlue Grading, Hollows and Delivery\u003c\/h2\u003e\u003cp\u003eIt takes 3–4 weeks to make as standard, and 5–6 weeks to make bespoke. As a commission the blue can be evened out or graded the other way, the hollows tinted to match or given a bright, clear polish, and the lobes spread further apart or brought in. The black marble can give way to a pale stone beneath, and the lobes can be cast at other sizes in proportion. It travels in a compact crate, stem and block bedded in foam, and it comes out of the crate held under the lobes, never by its rims.
