A deep, square black marble base comes with it.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003ch2\u003eReach That Outruns Its Own Foot\u003c\/h2\u003e\u003cp\u003eReach that runs well past the foot is the problem this piece sets itself, and the stone under it is sized for the answer rather than for the casting. A form that reaches this far stops being held down by its base and starts being counterweighted by it. That is why the stone beneath it is square on plan and deep in proportion to a casting that is nowhere near as heavy as it looks. Blue held low in the body means the colour sits where the material is heaviest, and the clear crest above it seems to weigh almost nothing. Polished over the whole sweep, the crest taken to the same grade as the foot.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eIt belongs in an atrium, a wide lobby or a hall that can be walked round rather than past. A plain wall behind it, pale. Blue against a dark ground at this size reads as a hole. Light from above and behind sets the clear crest alight over the blue; from in front it is an outline. The wave carries right across a lobby, and walking round it is the point rather than a bonus.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003ch2\u003eOpening the Reach, and Four People\u003c\/h2\u003e\u003cp\u003eReckon on 3–4 weeks for a standard piece, or 5–6 weeks for a bespoke one. The reach of the crest can be opened, the blue can be carried up into the crest, and the stone can be cut at another plan. Open the reach and the base is widened to it, because the stone has to stay under the crest for the piece to look settled. It arrives in two crates on a pallet, the stone going down first with the casting lowered onto it. Four people and a trolley for the stone. Its reach is the whole difficulty.
