Passages of glossy black and of a pale tone run vertically from the top to the foot, their boundaries wavy rather than straight, so the drum reads as two materials set side by side rather than one coloured in two tones. The waist is where the passages narrow and cross most closely, which is why the middle of the stool is where the eye stops. The flat top is where the boundaries meet as a set of curves. No two are split in the same places.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eAt 45cm high the stool sits at seat height and works as a seat, a side table or a stand, and it is solid enough to be stood on. The split runs vertically, so it presents differently from every angle and it is worth turning it to choose which boundary faces the room. It suits a plain floor and a plain wall, since anything patterned competes with the split. Then the colouring: this dark and light pairing, two shades of one hue, or one shade throughout. And the height of the waist, which can sit at the middle as here or be drawn up or down. The diameter and the height are open figures. Where two stools must share the same dividing line, they are best ordered together. With the flat top and the waist crated clear, one person can bring it in.
