From a curling root it swings out to one side, bends back across the middle and climbs at the far side into a fluted crest, where it splits into upright jets: two stand well above the rest, one hooks outward, and every jet finishes in a rounded drop. A single bead on a short stem stands up from the crossing, tiny nubs run along its lip, and a knot of drops bubbles up just above the root. The blue is saturated at the bottom and gives way to clear resin in the jets.

Saturated Azure Rising Into Clear Jets

The blue is put where water is heaviest. At the root and through the first bend it is a deep, saturated azure, close to cobalt in the folds; across the crossing it lightens and turns brighter; and as the crest divides into jets it fades out completely, so the tips read as spray thrown clear of the wave. The form is cast in clear resin and modelled in long flutes that follow the bends, and the beads along the edges are full and round, like drops caught at the instant they leave the surface. A high polish on every face keeps the colour bright and the edges crisp.

A hall console, a dining room sideboard or a desk in a study all suit it, ideally placed so that people pass it at an angle and see the S open out. At 75cm with its marble, set on a console it brings the clear jets up to the eye of anyone coming through the door. A lamp angled in from the side picks up each flute and sets the beads glinting, while white or pale grey paintwork behind it makes the azure look its most vivid. Indoor use only.

Azure Depth, Jet Length and Delivery

Allow 3–4 weeks for a standard piece and 5–6 weeks for a bespoke commission. Each wave comes with its marble base and is sold individually. Commissioned, the azure can be pushed towards navy or softened to a sky tone, the colour carried higher into the jets or stopped at the crossing, and the jets themselves drawn longer or kept close to the crest; a stone other than black marble can be used beneath it. It travels in a fitted, padded box, the jets cushioned and the base packed beside them, and is simply stood on the marble when it comes out. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.

A saturated azure wave drawing an S from its root to a spray of clear jets leads to our organic sculptures, our resin sculptures and our indoor sculptures.

Specification

Height

69cm

Width

41cm

Depth

22cm

Base

25 x 20 x 6cm

Material

Azure Blue and Clear Cast Resin on a Black Marble Base
