The sheet is cut level at the foot and stands on the floor it is set on.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003ch2\u003eOne Tint Doing the Work of Several\u003c\/h2\u003e\u003cp\u003eFolding a sheet back on itself is the cheapest way to make one tint produce every tone it is capable of, because each turn doubles what the eye looks through. Each fold doubles the material the eye passes through, so a single tint produces its palest value at the turns and its deepest where two thicknesses coincide. Nothing was added to get the range; the folding did all of it. Polished on both faces of every fold, including the inside of the turns, which is where the work is.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eThis is floor work for a tall room. It has no base at all, so the floor it stands on is part of the piece. A pale ground behind it is best, since the deepest aqua needs somewhere to read against at this size. Light from one side alternates lit and shadowed faces all the way up, which is what makes the folds countable. The folds are countable from the doorway, and the depth of tint inside them only opens up at two or three paces.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003ch2\u003eChanging the Fold Count, and One Crate\u003c\/h2\u003e\u003cp\u003eIt takes 3–4 weeks to make as standard, and 5–6 weeks to make bespoke. The fold count can be changed, the aqua can be exchanged, and a second, smoky colour can be drifted through the folds. Change the fold count and the height goes with it, because each fold keeps its own depth rather than being flattened to hold the height. One tall crate, and nothing to assemble: it is stood up where it is going and that is the whole installation. Three people. It is a broad thin thing and the folds are where it will be gripped wrongly.
