Inside that space a loose cloud of gilded metal leaves is held on fine looping wires, some close to the curl and some out towards its open side. The aqua blue is strongest at the foot and fades to clear along the crest, and beneath it is a neat block of black marble.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003ch2\u003eA Crescent of Water Holding Gilded Leaves\u003c\/h2\u003e\u003cp\u003eHere the water frames the leaves, and that shapes what the wires have to do. They loop inside the crescent in several directions at once, so the leaves are spread through the space in depth as well as across it and the piece reads differently from every side. The wires are dark, so they fall back against the aqua and leave the gilding to catch the eye. The curl is fluted along its length and breaks into short fingers at the crest and at the foot, which keeps the outer edge of the crescent alive while its inside stays calm.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003ePlace it where it can be walked round or seen at an angle, since the leaves sit in depth inside the curve; rising 104cm, it fits well at the end of a sideboard, on a hall console or on a reception counter. It is tall and slim and needs little surface, though the wave overhangs its marble on both sides and wants room there. A plain wall behind keeps the leaves distinct, and a lamp to one side makes the gilding glint. At a distance the crescent is the shape; close to, the leaves resolve one by one.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003ch2\u003eLeaf Cloud, Tint and Delivery\u003c\/h2\u003e\u003cp\u003eBuild times separate standard from bespoke: 3–4 weeks against 5–6. The cloud of leaves can be made fuller or sparer, the leaves finished in silver rather than gold, and the aqua deepened or taken to another colour. A sparer cloud opens up the inside of the crescent and lets the water lead. It ships in one crate with the wires braced and each leaf wrapped on its own, and it is unpacked and stood in its final place by hand.
