The aqua is strongest in the bottom loop and the foot and thins to a clear, glassy tip at the top, so the colour rises and fades like water drawn up a stem. A black marble block supports it and is included.

Aqua Rising Through the Loops

A knot of this kind is all crossings, and the aqua makes each one visible: where the ribbon passes over itself the colour doubles and deepens, so the meeting points glow while the single runs of ribbon stay pale and bright. The colour is heavy at the foot, where the knot rests, and clears as it climbs, which makes the form look light. The ribbon is polished on every face, including the inside of each loop, because the openings show them. The colour reads as clean and cool.

A wide shelf, a sideboard or a console suits it, placed where people can walk all the way round it. It suits bathrooms, bedrooms and white rooms, and it looks fresh beside glass, silver and plants. Daylight at one side makes the aqua glow; a plain wall behind it keeps the crossings crisp and clear.

Bluer, Greener, or Clearer, and the Crate

Reckon on 3–4 weeks for a standard piece, or 5–6 weeks for a bespoke one. The aqua can be moved towards blue or green, carried further up the ribbon, or kept to the bottom loop alone, and the loops can be set wider apart. The block can come in white marble instead. The same knot comes in amber and graded from pink through violet to blue, each sold on its own. It is delivered fixed to its block, and a single person can manage it, holding the block rather than a loop. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.

Aqua rising through a looped, crossing ribbon sits among our resin sculptures; the knotted, self-crossing form belongs with our organic sculptures, and pieces for a fresh white room are in our indoor sculptures.

Specification

Height

74cm

Width

32cm

Depth

24cm

Base

25 x 20 x 6cm

Material

Aqua and Clear Cast Resin on Black Marble
