It stands on black marble, included with the piece.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003ch2\u003eBlack Ink Drifting Through Amber\u003c\/h2\u003e\u003cp\u003eThe amber is cast in layers of tone, a clear honey at the outer face and a deeper red-orange toward the inner edge of the ring, so the colour seems to burn from within. The black ink is drawn through it in loose, curling drifts that thin out toward the gap, leaving the two frosted ends against clear colour. Their surface is broken and crystalline, catching light in points where the rest of the ring is glassy, and no two rings take the ink in quite the same way.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eAt 32cm it suits a writing desk or a bedside table, where the ink can be followed from close by. Daylight from behind turns the amber to fire and shows the ink as a drawing inside it, while a side lamp brings a sparkle to the frosted ends. The amber can be lightened toward honey or deepened toward cognac, and the ink drawn heavier or left out for a clean colour. The ends can be finished in gold leaf in place of the frosted amber, and the gap drawn wider or almost closed at order. It is packed flat in a single box with the opening braced and the marble in its own wrapping, and it can be lifted with one hand.
