Its seat is a squared block of upright flutes, each one rounded like a rod, and where they roll over the top of the seat the amber browns to the shade of toffee. From the back of the seat a tall arch springs up and over, a flat band incised with three lines along its curve, and the space it encloses is left open.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003ch2\u003eAmber Flutes Beneath an Incised Arch\u003c\/h2\u003e\u003cp\u003eIn amber the chair reads in three tones. The face of the arch is a clear burnt orange, close to marmalade; the flutes of the seat pale to a soft caramel that lets the room show through them; and the rounded tops of the flutes, where each one turns over, gather into a band of toffee brown. The three incised lines on the arch catch the light as thin bright tracks, and its open centre frames whatever stands behind. Nothing is added to the two forms, a block of flutes and a flat band, and both are polished all over.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eAt 86cm it suits a dressing table or a desk, and several together in amber warm a kitchen or a breakfast room. Morning light from a window behind brings the orange of the arch forward, and against white or grey walls the caramel seat glows. It takes little floor, so it can stand in a narrow hall or the corner of a bedroom. The amber can be taken towards a deep cognac or lifted to a pale honey, and the arch and the seat can be tinted differently if a contrast is wanted. A frosted surface can be had too; it clouds the amber and blurs the edges of the flutes. Chairs ordered together for one table are tinted together so the colour holds from seat to seat. Each chair is crated singly, and one person can manage it alone.
