Its inner face is a clear warm amber, while the outer surface and every edge are black, so the colour shows only where the furl opens. The form rises in one sweep, leaning slightly as it climbs, and ends in a pointed crest at the top. At 78cm it suits a low sideboard, where its crest rises to about eye level.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003ch2\u003eAmber Held Inside a Black Furl\u003c\/h2\u003e\u003cp\u003eThe line between the amber and the black is kept sharp all the way along the rim, so the furl reads as one sheet with two faces. The amber is clear enough to show depth, while the black holds a high polish and gives back the room around it. Because the form is curled, the amber sits in shadow at the back of the furl and catches light at its open edge, which gives one colour a whole range of tones. The pointed crest is the finest part of the furl and is finished by hand last of all.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eSet it where it can be walked past, so the furl opens and closes as the angle changes; a hall console or a plinth in a living room both suit it. A pale wall behind brings out the black outline, and low light from one side warms the amber inside the curl. In a dim room the amber reads almost alone, the black edge falling away into the shadow around it.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003ch2\u003eAmber Depth, the Black Face and Delivery\u003c\/h2\u003e\u003cp\u003eBuild times separate standard from bespoke: 3–4 weeks against 5–6. The amber can be deepened toward copper or lightened to honey, and the black exchanged for a deep bronze or a smoke grey. The furl can be wound tighter or opened wider at order, and a version in a single colour, all amber or all black, can be made too. It is crated standing, the crest wrapped on its own, and lifted out by hand from low on either side.
